Why is a baby sleeping bag necessary?
For the first 0-18 months, experts recommend putting the baby in a baby sleeping bag instead of under a blanket. So the little ones are always well wrapped up and cannot slip under the bedding.
Especially for restless newborns, a baby sleeping bag in the baby's initial equipment is highly recommended. It is rather narrow and tight and encloses the baby like a protective cocoon. This mimics the warm and confined environment of the womb, which is very comforting to most babies. Gently wrapped in a baby sleeping bag, even infants that need to be very close and clingy can be put down for a moment, so that the parents have a little breather.
Baby sleeping bags that can be opened at the bottom are practical. This makes night changing easier.
Breathable material is important to prevent the baby from overheating. The sleeping bag must offer space to kick, but it must not be too long (approx. baby length + 10 to 15 cm).

What sleeping bag sizes are newborns and babies?
| Old | Baby sleeping bag size |
|---|---|
| from birth up to 4 kg | 56 cm |
| from approx. 2 to approx. 6 months | 65 cm |
| from approx. 6 to approx. 12 months | 75 cm |
| from approx. 12 to approx. 24 months | 100 cm |

Which baby sleeping bag materials are recommended for which season?
The heat classification for textiles is in TOG. There are usually 4 different values for baby sleeping bags. Summer sleeping bags with 0.5 tog are ideal for midsummer and room temperatures from 20 degrees. They are usually made of light cotton fabrics or muslin and are usually not lined.
A year-round sleeping bag is usually 2.5 tog and is perfect when the room temperature is between 16 and 20 degrees. Depending on the model, these baby sleeping bags are made of very different materials. Cotton fabrics are particularly popular here, but synthetic fibers, wool and bamboo fibers can also be used.
A winter sleeping bag is intended for low temperatures from around 16Β°C. Cozy products such as wool or artificial fabrics are used to keep the baby warm. In addition to warm outer fabrics, winter sleeping bags are also lined, for example with down, feathers or synthetic fibers.
